THE ROOTS OF HARTELCO

Hartelco started as Cedar County Farmer’s Telephone Company in 1905.

Over the years, our name has changed to Hartington Telephone Company, Hartington Telecommunications, and finally now Hartelco.

But it’s the same top-notch service supplied by our great employees that you’ve come to know for over a century. Now in the 21st century, we’re still leading the way as every single one of our customers are served by fiber optic cable – the same service that many metropolitian areas would love to have.

Internet service was started in the early to mid-90’s as dial-up service. Over the years we’ve made improvements to ensure that all our customers – even rural farms – have the same great service as their urban counterparts. We’ve now evolved into providing high-speed Internet (broadband) over fiber optic cable to each and every home and business in the Hartington and Bow Valley area. We currently offer 100 Mbps download and upload speeds, and are anticipating offering even higher speeds in the future.

How does Hartelco Fiber benefit the South Yankton Area?

No. Hartelco brought fiber to the home to Hartington and Bow Valley Nebraska in 2012.

What is the process to get fiber to my house/neighborhood?

After enough interest in shown for a particular neighborhood zone (through filling out this form), we will start the Sign-up phase to determine the level of commitment for a prospective Fiber build.

During Sign-up, we will contact every potential home to determine how many households are interested in our new fiber optic network and are serious about taking advantage of our services.

After we have reached our commitment requirements for a prospective Fiber build, we will begin plans for construction on your fiber network! If your neighborhood zone does not reach the required interest level, your neighborhood may instead be serviced with a hybrid wireless Internet solution. That’s why it’s important for you and your neighbors to show your interest in fiber!

How can I test what speed I am getting now?

Click on this link to test the speed you are currently receiving. When doing a speed test, always restart your router or modem first. Don’t use the Internet for anything else while you’re testing it. Always restart your computer or device before testing.

What's better? Fiber optic, cable, DSL, or wireless?

Fiber optic is the fastest Internet option available; it is not shared and provides far greater speeds to enhance your experience. If you use the Internet in any way and have the opportunity to sign up for fiber, you should! You will not be disappointed.
