June 6, 1944: FAST FACTS ABOUT D-DAY

4. Code names for the five beaches where the Allies landed: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword.

5. The date June 5, 1944 was originally chosen for the invasion, but bad weather forced the allies to postpone a day.

6. More than 13,000 aircraft and 5,000 ships supported the operation.

Cloud DVR

What is Cloud DVR? Cloud DVR(cDVR) means that your recordings can now be stored in a more secure “off-site” location. You can also double or even triple your amount of space compared to the DVR Set Top Box. With 250 GB you can record 3 shows at once and with the 500 GB option you can record up to 6 shows simultaneously!cDVR is also beneficial as it allows each STB box to have RestartTV, which lets you change channels and rewind to the beginning of the show as long as the show hasn’t ended and is still live. All you will need is a standard box to view and record all of your movies, shows, and sporting events! The larger DVR Set Top Boxes will be replaced with the standard box when they reach their end of life and cDVR will be activated on your account at no extra charge.

Brief Internet Outages

A few customers may have noticed a brief, 2-minute stoppage of Internet traffic this morning (June 6). While there are many factors that affect the Internet, in the past this outage could have lasted much longer. What's changed? Hartelco works with a handful of other local phone companies providing Internet service, and together we have alternate routes to the "Internet" which become activated when one route goes down. This was the case about 9:30 AM today, when the traffic monitors detected a transmission route with errors for many of the nearby towns, and within just a few minutes our system began to re-route Internet traffic to avoid any interruption. We thank you for your patience during these few moments.

Hartelco Email Filtering System

Hartelco offers an Edgewave Email Filtering system that captures spam email and quarantines them, so you don't have to deal with annoying spam in your inbox! This spam filter checks for sexually explicit, get rich quick, racially insensitive and special offer emails. It also is highly efficient at containing malicious content or emails bearing viruses. It is only $1.00 per month per email address!

The filtering system emails you every Monday around 3:30 AM, and shows you all of the spam you received in the last week. If you did receive an email that shouldn't have been blocked by the spam filter, you are able to release it from this email. With this feature you can then go ahead and add the sender's email address to your contact list, so they won't be blocked again! Last month, the Hartelco Filtering System quarantined OVER 9,000 emails intended for Hartelco customers. Please call our offices for any questions you have when using our Edgewave Filtering System.

WannaCry Ransomware Attack

As seen on the news recently, May 12, 2017, the worldwide WannaCry ransomware cryptoworm was attacking viciously. It has been hitting even the largest companies and hospitals. We recently had two Yankton-area businesses get hit in the same day. Please follow these great tips given by our Yankton Computer and Network Services technician, Brian Kopp:

1. ALWAYS have your systems backed up

2. Update and patch your systems. Computers with out-of-date software are the most commonly hit.

3. Use anti-virus software

4. Educate your workforce. DO NOT click on ANY questionable links or email attachments, unless you know the source and are expecting the attachment.

5. Do NOT pay the ransom. There is no guarantee it will recover your files.

Hartelco Computers and Yankton Computers and Networking are always here to help, business or residential! Give us a call at 402-254-3901 or 605-664-2222.

Here is a link to the Yankton Press & Dakotan article discussing the Bon Homme WannaCry attack, and how Yankton Computers solved the problem.

CPNI Privacy Information

Customer Propietary Network Information (CPNI) is required for all Hartelco customers and is very important to have. CPNI is the data collected by telecommunications companies about consumer's telephone calls and any other information regarding your account. Every Hartelco account needs to make sure they have a CPNI set up, so that in case of emergency a friend or family member can make changes or ask questions about your account if necessary. We ask each account to give us a 4-digit number for authentication purposes. We at Hartelco take your privacy very seriously, and we must be able to authenticate the people you add to your list with this number or in person with a government issued ID.

If you are not sure what your CPNI number is, or if you aren't sure that you have a list or not, please stop by our office so we can help clear things up for you.
